computerfreakxv Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 I am getting ready to buy an MSI K8N NEO Platinum mobo and I was wondering if I could fill all three slots with three stick of 512. Here is what I am talking about... SLOT ONE: Corsair 512 (PC-3500) C2PT SLOT TWO: Corsair 512 (PC-3200) C2PT SLOT THREE: Corsair 512 (PC-3200) C2PT I was just curious if that would work for that mobo. I don
evanin Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) they will run at 3200, just get a 1 gig of (512x2) for duel channel. the 3500 will not run at that speed because of the stick of 3200. If you looked at other threads it has been said before. Edited August 13, 2004 by evanin
computerfreakxv Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) I know that the (PC-3500) won Edited August 13, 2004 by computerfreakxv
Byron Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 It should be gold even though 1.5gb wont boost performance any more than just 1gb, atleast in games. You would have to work very hard to get past that 1gb mark.
Iggy Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Currently anything more than 1 Gb is overkill for most things. Spend the money on a good CPU and a great video card and you'll be set for Doom 3 and Farcry.
IUMaestro Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 i would also say having more than a gig might be a little much. i'm betting that the board will run them together but you can't be sure. i would go with the matched pair of 3200s and not risk any instability with 2 different kinds of ram in there. computerfreakxv Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Right now I am running a 9700 non-pro. Do you think that I should use the money that I was going to use for the RAM to buy a better Video Card, and if so which one? Which card do you think would be best
CardsFan88 Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 (edited) Personally I'm getting a 6800 ultra, and I'm sure that either of those cards would run games EXCELENT. Just like you my card will have to last me at least 2 years, maybe 3 so I went with the 6800 ultra because of sm3.0 (and slightly drivers issues). The way I was thinking, it will give better performance now (although half life 2 will be a interesting shakedown), and later when there are more complex shaders it will be less of a frame hit when they come out, since that's what sm3.0 is for. It can do more with less, and each amount of shading (from what I've read) takes up less resources. So say 10 shader are now on ati and uses 100 of something 10 shaders now will use 80 of something on nvidia That 20 can be used later for the same framerate ati has now And because of it being more efficient it might be more like 110 of nividia =100 of ati So at that rate the decreasing frame rates which will happen on either card will happen more slowly on the nvidia chip (at least through the first next generation of software writing). I could be wrong, but thats what I've taken out of all the reviews, posts, etc. I'm sure if I am wrong someone will correct it which will solidify whats what with my analysis and your question on this matter. The mobo you want to run will not run the memory in dual channel cuz there is no dual channel. The Neo2,however, has it and is an excellent board from what people say. The K8N Neo is also a great board. Like everyone has said, if you have 2 sticks running at 400Mhz and you have the PC3500 running as well, the speed on the 3500 will have to drop. Notwithstanding, either get another 512 stick...or.....spend the money on something else. 1 GB is plenty for FarCry and Doom3.
