Ok, let me make one thing clear: No flaming or debating upon various religions in this thread. Religious debates get nowhere fast, and are against the rules, afaik. This thread is not intended to support or supress any (non)religious belief, and there isn't to be any "My religion is the only right one!" "You're a <blah blah> if you don't believe in/follow <insert religious God/ess/Idol/Character here>.

Well, first off, the story behind it all:

I was raised to be a Christian, by my mom, who's a Christian herself. I was one untill last year. A couple months after turning thirteen, I slowly started becoming Agnostic. I no longer had solid beliefs in God, but I felt that there was still something out there, and I had an empty space in me. I remembered then a person on another forum saying that they had become a Pagan, so I decided to research it. To me, everything seemed to fit well. The beliefs, everything. I eventually started upon my journey to become a Wiccan. I bought some books on the subject, including one for my mom, in the hopes that it would help to keep her from yelling at me. The book I bought was When Someone You Love is a Wiccan. I read it through myself, and it's a rather good book, I must say.

The day I became a Wiccan, I told my homeroom/band/advisory teacher(well known as the nicest teacher in school) about it, knowing that she would be able to explain it to my mom better than I could, as my mom seems to have troubles understanding and listening to what I say.

Fast forward to getting back home. Well, I got yelled at alot, was told that I was worshipping Satan, that everything that wasn't strictly her religion was Satanism, and that I had made the worst decision of my life. I asked her to read the book. I doubt she did, even though she claimed to. My sister wanted to burn my books on the subject.

Now, I'm heading back to school in a couple weeks, and I need some way to try to hinder the persecution from classmates and my mom. Wicca has being one of the best things I've ever found, and has helped me out alot. All I want is for my mom to be understanding of my religious beliefs.

For those of you who are curious about what Wicca exactly is, read this.

I've studied wicca myself...I'm not wiccan, I'm baptist but I like reading about it..it favors the native american religion. Anyway, people have been prosecuted for their beliefs for centuries. If you truly believe in something..then don't worry about it..stick to what you believe...don't let other people get you down. Your mother of course is going to try to steer you away from it..she's your mother and it's her job to do what she thinks is best for you. Buying her that book...which seemed like a good idea..was only rubbing her face in it...or so it probably seemed to her. People deal with things differently. With time comes acceptance in most cases. Just continure learning and finding yourself. Everything will fall into place. I personally have studied many religions...it's something you need to do on your own...not listen to other influences...sometimes it takes people years...just keep an open mind....and don't argue with those that disagree with you..just say "i believe what I believe and no one can sway me". ;) Also, like someone else said...not everyone is ready to hear about it..you don't have to keep it a secret...but you don't have to share with everyone at the same time. If the topic comes up..then share.

Well, she was going to figure out soon, and I was just excited at having found something that I could really follow.

EDIT: Was writing this post as Celtica posted, and you know, reading what you have to say... that's probably the best thing I've ever heard anyone say. You and red are now my OCC idols :).

Ok, I will. How long do you think it'll take? A few months? Years?

could take anywhere from a day to years.....everyone is different...it isnt somethying you can rush...but it doesnt matter...you'll always have someone that doesnt accept you...your mother however has unconditional love for you...just leave her alone and let her ponder on it..best not to bring it up with her for a while.

Man, i pity you. I tell my family im an atheist and they're just like, "oh, ok then". I guess religion is taken more seriously over there than it is here. People say i worship satan too, but they have the totally wrong concept of satan (lucifer) whoever they wanna call him. So i usually tell them to check out this site Lucifer.com I think your family should accept you for who you are.

Best not to make comments like those homer..like KB said..that'll only lead to another flame war.

I myself am an Athiest too, and proud of it.

I think your mom is totally wrong about shoving her religion in your face. Christianity isnt about: ooo if its not in the book its the DEVIL! No it isnt.

I think you should believe what you want to believe.

I am Athiest and I dont worship Sator or belive he/she exists. I dont belive any god exists either, but that is persnal opinion

I have my own views. I believe there is some highe power out there and IT started the Big Bang which caused everything to be put into motion.

This leads to my views on fate. Our lives are all predetermined, we have no concious control, we think we do, but we don't, it was all predetermined. Our genes control everything we do, including animals and plants.

I don't believe this force can 'manipulate' things, it just started the creation of the Universe. And at the creation of the Universe, the end was already written.

Just a reminder..this thread is suppose to be about KB's situation...about what he should do. I just want to remind everyone that if it goes off on the subject of who believes what and who is wrong or right...it could get ugly  ...just a friendly reminder :D
