Impromptu Vacation

Well, after looking up colleges I want to attend the year after next, I'll be heading up to RIT this Monday. (Rochester Institute of Technology) and maybe to Nigara Falls/Canada for the a couple hours then back down to my grandparents house which is only a couple hours south of the Falls back on the state-side.

I won't return until Wenesday or Thursday, but most likely Wenesday. If anyone knows of other tech schools or anything interesting to see on the way from NJ to RIT to Nigara Falls back down into PA, post it! I need something else to do...

and :foldon: while I'm gone.

Thanks for the invite Eva_Unit, perhaps once you get setup a Saturday trip is in store for me. RIT is one of only two or three schools I've really looked at and I think I 'm going to go there (assuming I get in, :P)

What did you think of the admissions process? I have a 3.0 GPA, but with no honors classes, and I will be taking the SAT in October but project a 1100-1300 range. Do you think I'll have any trouble getting in?

Also, I believe Xero, also of OCC, will be attending RIT this fall. Maybe I could meet up with both of you come school time, lol.

Devil: The application process was pretty straighforward. You can do it online, of course, which is really easy. It asks all the typical stuff, and then you have to submit essays. But the coolest part is that you can submit essays you have already written for school (which of course I did ;) ) so you don't have to go writing a bunch of new essays for them. I applied in December and heard back in like February. I think you'll get in no problem...for comparison, I had about a 4.8 GPA (weighted, of course) and I got 1450 on the SAT, and I got into RIT's honors program. (which is the top 1% of their applicants...about 150 students or so) If I recall correctly, their average SAT score in the engineering college was 1280, and I think you'll certainly do that well. I think I'm really going to like it there....from what I've seen so far I'd recommend that you certainly try to go there. At first I was a little dissappointed because I also applied to Caltech and MIT, and got rejected from both of them. But the more I get to know RIT the more I like it.

I'll look forward to meeting up with you sometime throughout the year! If you ever have any other questions regarding their admissions stuff, feel free to ask me. :)

I work in Niagara Falls.......Maybe we should all head up to MArkham and check out ATI's HQ........ :D

Only if I had the time Whitelighting, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

As for Eva_Unit - Did you have to interview with them or anything? I really hope you do have to, because if I was borederline between getting in or not, I know I could impress them at an interview. I'm a pretty good public speaker and such. I wouldn't even think about applying for MIT/Caltech or those other bigname schools even if I had the grades. Thats not that atomsphere I would like from a school personally and it seems RIT is a little smaller, but still offers the same level of education.

hey guys... im local to Rochester and RIT. i live in a small town about 15miles south of the campus. im going there this fall (04) for Computer Engineering... so def have to stop by!!. just be prepared for lots of ugly brick, much rain, and crappy winters. but other than that, RIT rules! eva... ur about to get a PM buddy:-D

EDIT:: btw for the essay... make sure u do it something math/science/tech related if u plan on doing something w/ engineering. doesnt have to do w/ computers, just has to be something a bit complicated, try to stay more to technical writing instead of your basic english style writing, but either or will prolly do. mine was a 6 page paper on Ribosomes (for all of u that dont know, its a little tiny organelle that u learn about in AP Biology). good luck!

LOL Xero...I'm from Buffalo, NY in the first place, so I'm used to the NY weather. I live in NC now, but I've only lived here a few years...I'm still a New Yorker at heart, and I'm glad to be going back. For my essays I submitted some short 750-word Critical Analysis papers I wrote for AP English 12....maybe I got lucky, lol. Oh, thx for the PM...I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon. :)

Devil: Unfortunately, there was no interview....it's pretty much a standard Application with some essays. Though they HAVE called me and talked to me on the phone, but that was more for the honors stuff....it was pretty cool, the head of the engineering department personally called me and told me I was being offered the Honors thing. Like you said, I really like the more "personal" feeling at RIT as opposed to MIT and Caltech...Caltech in particular had an outright MEAN rejection letter.

Heh, I can only imagine the rejection letter.

In all honestly, if I don't get into RIT I'm going to only take a couple classes at a local college (I don't want to take the time off, but maybe a smaller load) and then reapply as a transfer to RIT or possibly another school. I don't see any reason why I won't get in thou.
