Hailstorm Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Well, I have a friend who needs to build a low cost system. He wants AMD. I really am a Intel guy and not that up on AMD to be honest. I had thought about a ASUS A7N8X maybe a -X. Not sure. Basically. He wants to put out about $300. He has a case and CD drives. He will need a powersupply, Mobo and CPU,and RAM. I talked him into getting a good board and maybe a 2600 AMD to start him off. OC it for now. Then when he had more cash and a 3000 becomes more money friendly buy one. SO he will need a board that can support a higher CPU for the future. I already talked to him about getting good RAM so he doesn't have to upgrade it later. Anyone have any ideas? He wants a gaming machine. A Radeon 9600 is also in his plans. Well thast where I am at.

Hailstorm Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 (edited) Yea OCing is what he wants to do, to get the most outa his setup. How is the board to OC with? How much are you thinking? Edited July 8, 2004 by Hailstorm
Mist Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 well my advice would be a 2500 mobile, dfi infinity (I had trouble with it but once I got it to work it oc's alot better then anything else), and some decent ram.
InvaderTrax Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Yeah, the A7V8X-X isn't much for OCing. I'd suggest either the A7N8X (any in series). As for video, anything 9600 and up is good (asking $85 plus shipping for mine)
Hailstorm Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 OK, I will do some checking and let him know about the offer. Thanks
hardnrg Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 there's not much point in buying a 3000+ cos an XP-mobile (2400, 2500, or 2600) will oc higher than a 3000, 3200 or whatever desktop xp cpu... i'd agree with the dfi ultra infinity + 2500 xp-m suggestion... and then try to get an enermax/antec/fortron psu... and then 2 sticks of matched pc3200
