Newport Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Ok. Today i think i am gonna cut out the fan grills on the back of my case. I dont have a Dremel or anything like that so what i am gonna do is borrow a drill and a drill bit and just drill out the guard. However, that it gonna leave some big chunks o metal around the sides of the circle that a drill cant get to. How do you reccoment smothing out the sides of the fan holes? Thanks for your help! DarkScorpion Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 A File or a sanding bit
Mangar Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 You can also but some rubber edge moulding. I like it because not only does it look good, but it provides a "gasket" to help keep the sound down from the fan-to-metal mounting. InvaderTrax Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 What I did was use a file to smooth it out, and then I put on a fat edged grill. Flows more air than with the perforated case guard, but still looks good and keeps my fingers out (from that side anyway)
hardnrg Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 A File or a sanding bit a file if you are really poor and/or feeling energetic... Â a sanding bit if you have one / can be bothered to go to the shop / not strong enough to file...

hardnrg Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 that's right... special as in special school dude... special school... Â if you get the dremel just make sure to buy about 10 bits of what you plan to use, especially for the cutting part...
Phil Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 For about $100 you can get a die grinder, looks like a Dremel but is much heavier duty. You can get carbide bits for it, cuts like butter.
Nemo Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 if you get the dremel just make sure to buy about 10 bits of what you plan to use, especially for the cutting part... I got one of the $79.99 Dremels this weekend and I only needed 2 cutoff wheels to cut 4 grids out of my case. Although I did buy an extra tube of them. Of cource it was a pretty cheap case for one of my folding rigs.
Newport Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I bought this http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=productDet...622-345-4962-03 and with tax it was 84.96! I did not get anything extra but i did use 3 1/2 grinding disks to cut out 4 fan grills and cut off a small sliver of the HDD rack to make room for another tornado lol. I found a way to save the grinding bits by keeping the Dremel in the 3-4 spd setting and feathering the tool so that it makes contact for a few seconds and then letting it off. After i wasted 3 of the bits on 2 fan grills, i started to do this and i was able to do the rest with like 1 disk! I love dremels! hehe
Nemo Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 That's the same one I got. Your case must be made out of heavier gauge metal than the one I have - I only paid $24 for it! (it's a folding only rig).
