DarkScorpion Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Hey all. Just wondering, is the volcano 7+ still a pretty decent cpu cooler? I can get one for 10 bucks and was wondering if I should bite
Neural Interface Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Its still a pretty good all copper cooler, I have one and for that price its a very nice deal
CheeseMan42 Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 for that price i would probably buy it but im still on stock. oh and i like the part about your dell and folding in your sig. did the same thing with my gateway
DarkScorpion Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Ok, thanks. do you think I can change the fan on it? A 47DBa 70mm fan doesnt really appeal to me. I too, am on stock, with a THERMAL pad, so thats why I want to change. and lol about the dell. your sig is wher I got the idea
InvaderTrax Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Yeah, the 7+ really can be loud. If you take the grill off, you lose about 5dB, but it's still annoying
Hyper Threaded Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 The fan on the volcano7+ is the same one on the spark7 IIRC. Noise isn't too bad if you keep it below 4000rpm, anything higher than that gets annoying, and 6750rpm (highest I've seen the fan) sounds like a handvac. Despite the loud fan, cooling is just mediocre.
DarkScorpion Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 but for 10 bucks, is it a good deal or should i just forget it?? Right now, any cooler is better than what I'm using (stock AMD)
Neural Interface Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 There should be a fan controller with it, on the lowest setting its silent (20db roughly) If not get speedfan to slow it down and true its not the best but for that price its pretty good
Hyper Threaded Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 but for 10 bucks, is it a good deal or should i just forget it?? Right now, any cooler is better than what I'm using (stock AMD) I believe it would be the best cooler, until you could afford something nicer. Right now, anything is better than what you have. DarkScorpion Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Yeah, I know. How about the thermaltake Silent Boost? I can get it for 23, do you guys think its a good performer for the price? I'm planning to change the fan on it to a red-LED fan or one of thermaltakes UFO fans.
SkullZ Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 Im still running a stock amd heatsink too, my friend bought a Zalman 7000Cu full copper and he just realised his motherboard doesnt have the holes where the heatsink needs to be seated (for screws) and he wanted to give it to me which isgood lol
sYstEmATiC Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 i have a volcano7+ and it is a good cooler for 10 bucks, kept my 2500+ non oced and 34C idle. if u take off the grill, it makes it a little quiter and i got a 2C drop in temps by taking it off. i would buy it for 10 bucks....btw that 70mm fan pushes 49cfm's
