snipermav Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 I can reach XT speeds with my card, I'm just waiting for some ramsinks to be able to push it up there at all times. But is there actually any performance gain by just flashing the bios?
Shadowfactor Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 maybe a little but most flashes dont work , because the core is differnt but if you have the R360 caore then you can ( must have Hynix ram 2)
DarkScorpion Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 I would say thers no point if you could OC to XT speeds, beacause you'll just placing an uneeded risk on your carfd because if the flash goes wrong, your card could mess up. Just OC it, theres no real performance difference.
sykocus Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 no, because flashing a plain 9800 pro to xt doesn't do anything other then raise the defult clock speed, and make your computer think its a different card. there are subtle differences between the cores of the xt and 9800 and flashing the bios doesn't open up new pipelines or anything like that it simple overclocks it. so you risk loosing the card, when you can just raise the clock speeds yourself and get the same results. Mist Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Don't do it simple as that. The ram on the xt has different timmings and it burns out the pro's ram after awhile.
oralpain Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Flashing to the XT bios will increase perfromance in DX9 stuff at the same clock speed. The R360 core (used with the XT bios) has improvements in the pixel and vertex shaders over the R350 core. There are various XT BIOSes out there for the kind and amount of memory on the card. My sapphire 9800Pro 128meg has an r360 core and samsung memory, so I got the BIOS from a 128Meg 9800XT with samsung memory. It works flawlessly. Try www.ocfaq.com for bioses and flash utilities.
