virus Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Ok I have very sucky Bios becuase I cant overclock, Neither my cpu or memory. Can you download better Bios, or are you stuck with what your motherboard came with? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right spot. Hyper Threaded Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 You can flash a new BIOS, but you can't replace the BIOS chip with one from a different board. I wouldn't assume that flashing a new BIOS would add new features (overclocking) but, I can always be wrong.
Paranoid Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 It would help if we knew what motherboard you have...
Mangar Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Try this ClockGen you can oC with this software, as always "at your own risk"... I have used it before, works good.
virus Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Motherboard Name AM35 Motherboard Supplier FIC
Eva_Unit_0 Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 OOOOOH well that explains it. FIC is not known for making good boards...they especially suck at overclocking boards. You could always try to find a hacked bios for the board to unlock more options (like the honeyx bios that became so famous on the ECS K7S5A), or you could try to use a software oc-ing utility. But I wouldn't expect too much out of it...it's an FIC board running an old chipset that was designed for integrated stuff. (km266) The kmxxx chips do not overclock as well as the ktxxx chipsets because the km ones are packed full of integrated features and typically used on matx boards. airman Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 just go out and buy either an MSI or an abit board...because they overclock really well, they hold their voltages perfectly!
virus Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Yeah thats kinda what I thought. dang, could you change a processor from board to board? cause I love my processor
Eva_Unit_0 Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Of course you can keep the same processor...just make sure you get a socket A board so you can re-use it. I would recommend any board based off nvidia's nforce2 chipset, preferably from Abit, Asus, MSI, Albatron, or DFI, though many other brands are fine as well. Those just tend to be the ones I trust the most.

cchalogamer Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 I wouldnt get my hopes up using Phoenix Technologies bios, they tend to make the bios for HP and Compaq (my old PC and my friends current) and when i upgreaded my bios it gave me LESS options than b4, i guess they are just tryign to keep you from messing anythign up.
