Installed Windows Xp Service Pack 2

I figured I would give SP2 a try and believe it or not, I haven't found any problems thus far. The new security center is annoying and must be turned off, if you want sanity. I do think it's a good idea for users who know nothing about security though.

I really love the NX (No Execute) feature ( Microsoft calls it: Data Execution Prevention). I'm going to download some viruses and trojans and give it a whirl to see if it really works :)

The popup blocker in Internet Explorer is nice, but I don't use IE much.

The firewall has been improved a lot, but I'm still going to stick with Zone Alarm Pro since it lets me know what "Applications" want to access the Internet.

I'm going to do some testing tonight to see if there has been any impact on performance, since upgrading to SP2. As of right now, SP2 looks like a nice upgrade for newbies who know nothing about security but if you know not to open attachments and have a decent firewall then I would see no use of upgrading really. Unless of course you have a CPU capable of running NX, then you may want to upgrade for that added benefit.

nice post... agreed that the security center needs to be turned off..... the problem I found with RC1 is that if the security center service is turned off, then the Microsoft update website won't work and will return an error.......

is that the same with RC2? I haven't installed it yet.........

I love it. some people say it slugged down their system, but this candidate seems a little bit swifter than the last, and if you disable some of the security features it's faster than SP1 for me. that and it's alot more stable. i haven't had to reboot for any OS reason for months. it's nice
