Dasterdly Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Can anyone direct me to a site that explains the differences and benefits between the family, model, and stepping id's of amd procs? These are my specs:
hardnrg Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 www.amd.com i hear they got some articles or something over there... i think btw, ALT+PrintScreen... try it out sometime... see what the difference is and uAMDTool... next time you get to see the top of your cpu (i forgot last time!) write down the codes of the sticker on there and type them into the stepping decoder on uAMDTool to find out some extra info on your chip... Dasterdly Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 I tried, I didn't find much. But I'll try again.
hardnrg Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 what is it you want to know?
Dasterdly Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Like, "this family offers great overclockability" etc, etc. I already know that my 2500 can hit 3200 speeds, but i think it would make an interesting read.
hardnrg Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 ah right, what you want to look into is processor stepping revisions... e.g. the IQYHA stepping of the XP-mobile is proving to be a good overclocker... apparently the IQZHA is better, but i haven't seen it to buy yet... this 5 letter code is part of the full alphanumeric code on your processor... if you find this code on yours (you have to physically look on it) then you can google for it... cos there are many different revisions (think of them as new and improved) of the same model chip... e.g my 2500 is probably one of the rubbish 5-letter codes... i just keep forgetting to write down the code every time i take the heatsink off (not that often and i'm usually caught up in all the excitement of lapping my heatsink )
