Cuztom15 Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 hey, does windows xp home edition 2002 support hyper-threading, cuz SiSoftware Sandra told me only winxp 2003 or later does, not 2002, is this true?
Hyper Threaded Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 (edited) You need service pack 1 (sp1) for HT. Every copy of XP sold now is sp1, so I wouldn't worry. If you're starting without SP1, just disable HT from the BIOS, you can enable it once SP1 is installed. neb1211 Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 If you don't have SP1 installed on your computer you can download it from the windows updates page.
Cuztom15 Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 no no i have it, the only other reason i posted is besides sisandra, is because when i look at task manager it only shows one processor but device manager does show two processors
bigred Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 that's what it's supposed to do. even my dual xeon (2 HT cpus) shows up as 1 in the general tab and 4 under device manager.
Guest Ballz2TheWallz Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 mine shows up as two in the task manager, i have winxp home and a 2.8Cghz p4
neb1211 Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 I thought that the hyperthreaded p4s were supposed to show up as 2 cpus in the task manager. Every hyper threaded p4 that I have worked with has shown up as 2 cpus.
Guest FxXP Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 I thought HT was not supported in XP Home, but only in XP Professional. Oh well

bigred Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 SP1 fixed that and the memory cap. it also allowed for xp pro to support 2 HT xeons at once (2 physical processors and 4 virtual processors). and yes it does show up in the general tab as 1 cpu, device manager as 2 and task manager as 2 processors.
