jammin Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 i assume you have tried both the sticks individually right?.. if the new one doesn't work at 400 on its own then I would send it back..
IUMaestro Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 Ok Pete - I'm really starting to think one of those DIMMs has a physical problem, that or the memory controller on your board is acting really funny. You did the right thing to force 400Mhz, and the fact that you didn't boot after doing that makes me think it's probably the RAM itself. What companies make each stick you are using. Are they of different origins? They obviously aren't the same model as they have different stock timings. You can try upping the VDIMM voltage, then forcing 400Mhz again, if that doesn't do it you may need to see about RMAing that stick and if I may suggest, buying another of the exact RAM you are keeping. However you want to do it, RAM sometimes, especially on older, and cheaper boards, is very picky about who it bunks up next to. I ran Kinsgton 256, and Samsung 256 next to each other for a week and then they just up and decided to not ever let me boot again.. I dunno why.. but RAM is like that. See if you can put twins in your system rather than strangers
PeteRoy Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Yes I tried both individualy and both run at 400mhz when alone. My board doesn't let me change voltage of memory. One memory says "A Data" on it, the other/new says "V Data" on it, both are "DDR400 3200" and work at 400mhz alone.. I them from the same store, I will try to replace them this week. IUMaestro Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 sorry I didn't see that you can't change voltage earlier. you know what I would do is take both DIMMs in and have whoever works there sell you a match if possible. To be honest, it could be the older dimm acting up but ya may never know. As long as you can get your money back, or make an equal exchange then you can hopefully consider it a success hehe. hope it all works out for ya man. good luck
PeteRoy Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Yes, I called the guy who sold me the 2 memory sticks and he said he called the importer of the memory which explained him what went wrong. I will now need to wait til he recieves a match pair to replace what I got right now. Thanks to all.
r_target Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 One more thing when you get your new RAM.When I had that board I think it defaulted to 320 when I put two sticks in.So when you get the new stuff, don't forget to go back in and check it out.Good luck.
