How Can I Tell If My System Is Stable?

Recommended Posts

I'm reminded of my old attempt to overclock as a stern and expensive reason not to overclock like a madman (the guide was right in saying you will become addicted). At the time I O/C'd a 2.8c 800Mhz FSB to 3.33Ghz with....oh, I dunno probably 1.67V or higher. I came back one day to find my computer smelling of burning and my fan lights were not functioning/was dimmed.

Though at the same time I would very much like to have my processor at 3.0 at the minimum (way below the 3.33 that blew my computer up). Is there a way to see how well my computer is holding up due to O/Cing?

> set a warning beep and/or automatic shutdown at certain temp(s) in your bios (this will stop an unfortunate deja-vu experience)

> run prime95 and [email protected] at the same time

> use mbm5 to monitor your temps

sit back and watch those temps... and also those voltages! w00t, AND fans... you can set alarms on them and all sorts... :)

prime95 will give you a "Execution halted message" if something is amiss... if something's seriously set wrong it will take a minute... if slightly, maybe a few hours... 24 hours is recommended by most...

:foldon:

(back in full force 24/7 :))

I like to run a barrage of tests on my systems, not just Prime95. I like to run Prime95, SiSandra, play some games, and run some benchmarks.

You can find all of the tools I listed above all over the net. If you have trouble finding them, google it or let me know.
