robotguy9000 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Hey people. Im fairly new to all this overclocking business, but not at all new to comps in general. I had a few question on how to overclock my P4 2.4C through the bios on my GA-8KNXP. I succesfully pushed my fsb up to 225 (with a multiplier of 12) for an effective output of 2.70 GHZ. (I didnt touch ANYTHING else, such as the voltages, AGP/PCI/SRC ratios, etc.) This is when the problems started. I got random crashes, proggie freezes, everything associated with overclocking too much, but my temps were only at 40 C!!!!! What could this be associate with? Do i need to mess with y voltages? Thanks alot for ANY help you can provide!
4MD_4_M3 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 you may need to up the voltage a little bit. That might be why it is crashing but im not really sure because i am a newb too

4MD_4_M3 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 ya, you should be able to get that to 3.0 pretty easily if you have good ram and cooling hope everything works out well just remember take it slow
robotguy9000 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 lol, you could say i have good ram... corsair 3200 and good cooling... check out my heatsink-

Check out some reviews on Tom's hardware and other sites. Those heatpipe beasts are ok for idle but when you load your CPU they perform dismaly

Vampire Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 You need to lock the AGP and PCI frequencies, there should be an option such as "Fixed", if there isnt an option to lock them (not too sure if gigabyte mobo's do or not), then keep them as close to 33/66 as possible. Your voltage should be alright till you hit about 230mhz FSB I'd say. Hope this helps

I have one of those and with my tornado @ 5 volts my Mobile never gets over 40C under load at 2507 mhz.
MindDrive Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 (edited) (i think the deep impact is junk- through personal experiance) anyway-- im running a 8IK1100 which is basicly the same mobo with less options, i have my 2.6C P4 OC'd to 3.19 without changing voltages, the agp/pci/src fix is disabled, ---- hang on lemme double check what im saying since its been a LONG time since ive been in my bios................ ill give you my exact settings - let me know how they work for ya....... bonus - ill even take some pics (hopefully they turn out ok) be right back................... ok i took pics of my bios screens and here is the link to my geo site: http://www.geocities.com/minddrive_rs/bios.html thats the bios of the puter im runnin in my signiture and its pretty stable running winXP home(SP1) fully updated Edited June 8, 2004 by MindDrive
JackRussell Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Just in case you missed Vampire's important point: again, fix AGP/PCI frequency @66/33... that's like the first most basic thing you have to do. Apparently the deep impact isn't the greatest for P4's, but it can work very well. Just be really careful when moving the case around... no jolts. That goes for any heavy hsf, but someone here wrote about how their dp-102 actually broke at the base.
