9700 Pro Cooling

Recommended Posts

Alright, I know the VGA Silencer is a great cooler, but is there anything else good out there? The Giant III looks interesting, but complicated and a little overkill. So, all I really need to know is whether or not the VGA Silencer will fit and is there anything else out there I should consider?

YES. go with the silencer, you won't regret it. It is whisper quiet, and since it exhausts all of the hot air it produces immediately, there is no worry of heat build up. And since that fan is not just blowing the same hot air over the heatsink, it runs much cooler than with any other cooler.

VGA silencer all the way...I have one on my flashed 9700np, and it works wonders. Too bad my core is stubborn and doesn't like to be overclocked! But I've gotten a lot out of my memory...from 540 stock to 690.

well i know a full card heat sink that is made just for the 9700pro

http://ocsystem.com/ocati90vidca.html i own this cooler  for 2 of my ati 9700s its nice

It's not as good as the Vga Silencer but you will kill your warrenty

Well you technically kill your warranty by doing ANYTHING...even just adding ramsinks technically voids it.

copper wouldn't help. If you look at the size of the aluminum block on the silencer, you must realize that a copper version would weigh enough to snap a card if the case was jarred or anything, and that much copper wouldn't absorb the heat from the core too well because of its mass.

Go custom:

It works great, even with a vmodded GPU, and it didn't cost a cent. If you have an old hsf laying around, use this guide (you don't need to grind down the hsf or remove the shim).
