DevilMB3017 Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 They might take a couple days to get used to, but I definately love the motive behind it. It should be a lot easier to get around the forums this way. Also, I suggest you use the sub-catergories in some new ways too. Maybe AMD, Intel, and Other under the Processors Catergory and other detailed ways around the forum to seperate everything better and have it much easier to help people and find search for questions that people have asked before. DevilMB3017 Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 d3, I really think that you and Matt...well, more Matt cuz it is his site...should switch the topics around like that or something similar. With so many people and so many posts here, its hard to get what you want or help with what you know. If you break things down like this, two things will happen. 1) People will post more off-topic things, causing the need for more moderation. People are just stupid sometimes and would post all over the place off-topic. 2) There will be less repeat threads, just be virture of making it easier for searching manually. As silly as it sounds, people search 'by hand' much more then using the Search button. Does the good of Number 2 out weigh Number 1? I hope so. d3bruts1d Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 People will post more off-topic things, causing the need for more moderation. People are just stupid sometimes and would post all over the place off-topic. What do you mean? For the new sub catagories, or the new "Off Topic forums"? If you mean the off topic forums, they could be setup so that it doesn't add to post count (not that post count matters anyway). As far as moderation, things have been a little better as of late... we've reduced the number of miss post and such dramatically. Use to be 10-15++ a day, and now we'll have about 5... so that's really not a problem. If it does become a problem, we could always hire another forum mod. Though between Matt, Max, and myself we pretty well have it covered right now. Jason and the other Matt help out a bit as well. Again... just to go on the record... I never said we would hire someone, nor did I say the changes would happen. I know someone is going to come back and say "but d3 said so". DevilMB3017 Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 No, what I mean in Number 1 is that people will "cross-post" and put things in the wrong catergory just by mistake. Such as putting a non-64 bit question in the 64-bit Forum. That requires more moderation...

Want to get it off your chest? Let it out here.) I was thinking something more along these lines. Lots of sub-topics are better to post something or find an answer, but not to help people. Having to go through three extra sub menus of recent topics is annoying to even look at, much less respond to them. By the same token you also want sub menus with a variety of good info. in them. How many topics are on Matrox video cards, Flash/USB drives, or C++ programing help on this board? I don't want to get some bunk old topic from 2001 when looking for something of current use. I wouldn't surf into a forum section often if there are only 3 posts under it since the site opened, these people would have a hard time getting noticed and helped with something as simple as a much needed driver re-install. Even though the list is good, sub-topics I believe are really only good for sections that get over 1 full page of new posts a day to keep it from getting dropped off the face of the planet before it gets any help or attention. Either way I have still liked all the changes until now and there were plenty before I got here, I definately have faith in you guys just keep up the good work! He makes a good point right there. Sub-topics are good, but only to a certain point.
