Fedora Core 1 Linux Networking?

I am running an older system with Fedora Linux Core 1, and wanted to know how to set up my network/internet. I have road runner (cable) internet, that goes through a cable modem, to a router, to a hub, and then finally to my computer through it's 3com integrated NIC. The auto-configuration deal when I installed didn't seem to do the trick and I have been playing around with DHCP but with no luck. Anyone offer me any help on this, or point me to some sort of resource? Thanks.

I have been hearing alot of buzz about linux/intel problems. Most likely, some of your problems are comming from bad drivers. I have been reading that Intel is slow to release binary drivers and keeps alot of the code under wraps...
