Rick_fourdumbkids Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 if i was to get 2 wireless NIC's would they act as a cross over cable or would i have to get a wireless hub i don't really understand the wireless networkin as you can see... and the other question i want to ask is if i get the wireless network sorted out can i "transmit" broadband over the wireless network in other words assuming the Wireless NIC's can act as a crossover cable does that mean they carry all the same functions as a regular cross over cable? Some_Guy_ Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Yes, that would work provided your NICs support ad-hoc mode.
Rick_fourdumbkids Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 so basically the 2 NIC's will act as cross over if they support ad-hoc mode? i'm guessing they just set up exactly the same as a normal crossover would?
Some_Guy_ Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 You got it. You'll need to set them to ad-hoc, and you're in business.
Rick_fourdumbkids Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 ooohh so after my new found knowledge i skip along over to ebuyer to be horrified with the prices of these things the two computers i want to connect are ones downstairs and ones upstairs so i'm guessing it's time to get out the cross over and the bosch and make some holes

Some_Guy_ Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Yes, but our friend Rick is on the other side of the pond.
Rick_fourdumbkids Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 yeah there was ones on ebuyer.co.uk for like 20 pounds but after reading the reviews it seems it's only the expensive ones that are any good (like most things with computers) so i think i'll have to make do with a crossover cable until the prices come down a little
