kendellrt Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 I am pretty knowledgable with PC's, but the one thing I don't understand is how RAID works. I guess I never have had the need to. Could someone please explain it to me, or direct me to a thread or link that can? Also, what is the difference between the RAID-0, RAID-1, etc.? kurosen Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 First off, Second, here ya go http://arstechnica.com/paedia/r/raid-1.html Most people use RAID nowadays because of the read/write speed increase vs. plain linking IDE primary master/slave, etc.
kendellrt Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Thanks. I understand a little better now. I still don't know how I would implement it though.

ccokeman Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 As long as you follow the directions its pretty easy. 2 identical drives and you are ready to go.
LobbDogg Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Get yourself a couple identical drives, a RAID controller, and an OS that suports RAID(which is pretty much anything). Wire them up, Go into the RAID controller setup utility(loads usuallt just after POST), setup your RAID array and the type of array you want. Install drivers for the RAID array while installing Windows or if Windows will not be installed on these drives, then you can install the drivers from Windows itself.
