JackRussell Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Dreaded safer-than-sorry question (tried searching): Upgrading my cooling in a few days (sp94). So I have take out the CPU to clean heatspreader. Question: Could taking out the CPU effect the BIOS settings at all? Is it possible the settings could go to default despite the battery being fine? So point is, I'm wondering if I should clock-back first. IF the above did happen, it could hurt something if speed changes radically or if there are conflicting settings... so better to just ask and look dumb

JackRussell Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Thanks Just that I thought I recalled somebody saying "just in case clock-back before replacing HSF"... so was wondering if maybe taking cpu out can sometimes trip a circuit or whatever reseting everything (coz mobo is never completey "OFF" unless battery is gone)... he might have meant "in case you install HSF poorly". But cool no worries B)

JackRussell Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 yeh. you might as well drop back to stock... just incase Yea, you never know huh? I will be taking apart everything (sp94 requires that). So I guess I better get started with that. Clocking back is no fun, but damaged hardware even worse.
