Stachman31 Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I have 2X256 of Geil Platinum Dual channel DDR PC-4000. I was able to OC from a 2.8 to 3.1. Had to up the Ram Voltage to 2.8. Had it for 3 months with no problems. Haven't tried changing ram timings, content for now.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 My A64 system has Geil Ultra Platinum PC3500, and I have no complaints about it. Really though, you won't be hitting super-high fsb with any current A64 mobos, so any of them will work fine. Heck, even at my overclocked 215fsb my ram is STILL running under its rated speed, lol. DarkScorpion Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 yeah, 2.7 is REALLY pushing it unless you got one kickass board, strong ram and good cooling. as for the ram, get soome corsair or OCz, preferrably this if you got the money. FanATIc205 Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 if money is not a issue go with the mushkin pc3500 special 222 1 gig kit. if money is a concern most pc3200 and 3500 corsair, pmi, ocz, etc will most likely be winbond ch5 chips so they will pretty much all perform the same. i would go with pc3500 period the extra headroom over pc3200 will help if you decide to oc, and tight latencys will give better system performance compared to the pc3700 and above stuff. Trakfast11 Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 (edited) RAM will not be a bottle neck for overclocking your cpu unless you can't raise the multiplier any higher. And actually you can get a little higher cpu overclock if you decrease your fsb oc. Also, if you get PC3500 RAM, I don't think you will be able to get your RAM to its rated speed since many people with the a7n8x deluxe have been hitting a external freq ceiling at around 211Mhz or so (unless ofcourse, you are willing to do some volt mods). If you are planning to take this memory into your next system then PC3500 should be fine. It sounds like you are planning to use this in the XP system since you said you won't be oc'ing your A64 rig. luckily your stock multiplier is 13.5x, so that means that you'll be able to access higher multipliers to help you with your overclock. Had your stock multiplier been under 12.5x while using a a7n8x deluxe, then you would only be able to use the lower multipliers (any available multi equal to or below 12.5x). So for this system, you'll be best off with something like 3200 222 special, although you won't see a noticeable difference between it and a lot of other memory (mainly see the small difference in benchmarks) so you'll have to decide if its worth paying the higher price for this memory. gl Edited May 3, 2004 by Trakfast11
