Hdd Recommendations?

Ok...

I will be wanting to get a new IDE hdd drive shortly. I will be using it as a slave

to store files on. I wanted to get at least a 200gb drive and I was wondering if any

of you might have recommendations for drives from experince. As its only gonna

be used for storing files and the like I don't think it needs to be that fast.

I currently have the drive in my sig as my main drive and am pretty happy with it.

So do I go with another maxtor, or is something else better? (oh and yes.. i will be

avoiding IBM drives).

I have used Western Digital ATA 100 and they are a lot quiter than the the Maxtor 133, what I have not not understood is why the ATA 100 W.D. has about the same seek time if not quicker than the 133 Maxtor, also I have used the Maxtor serial 150mbs and I do not understand why the seek time on it is about the same as the ATA 100 WD or 133 Maxtor. I have been wondering about this myself. How can a serial 150mbs Maxtor have about the same seek time as a ATA 100 or 133 and supposed to be faster, if someone could help me to understand why the serial is supposed to be faster when it has the same seek time as the ATA 100s/133s I would appreciate it. On the otherhand the serial 10,000 k Raptors have a lot faster seek time, I have yet to figure out how a faster ATA 133 with the same seek time as a 100 is is supposed to be faster, I can see it on the raptors with a 3.something or 4 seek time is faster but I can not firugre the other drives out if there is really a difference?

Thanks, David

I've used 3 different brands, Maxtor, Western Digital, and Seagate. In orderof greatness Maxtor>Western Digital>Seagate. I would never recommend a seagate cause you typically will lost 10 gigs on a 40 gig hard drive. Out of the 3 Maxtor is the best because it is user friendly. Installation is a breeze and formatting couldn't be easier.
