reir Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 When installing a new heatsink onto a cpu that has had one on it for a while, should I remove the old thermal paste or just leave it and add a little more or none at all? Also how should I go about removing it paper towel, cloth, finger?
asus Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 hehe.. um.. hear we go.. well.. first.. remove the old thermal paste with alcohol.. sorry.. cant spell, to lazy to look it up :)//// use alcohol and a coffee filter, use like the 92% alcohol stuff "rubbing alcohol" and yes, apply a paper thin amount of thermal paste.. NOT TO MUCH.. very very thing.. check out google.. do a search for "how to apply thermal paste to cpu" you should get some hits on good tutorials if you have never done it before.. hope this helps
BeatRyder Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm That should cover it
Sly_C Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 whatever u do definately, don't use ur finger, as the instructions Beatryder posted says the oil on ur fingers can get in the cracks on the cpu and affect the cooling.
Tempesta Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 I followed the AS Ceramique instructions on their website to the letter, and I'm very happy with the results.
