r_target Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 I have an older Maxtor and I was wondering if the newer HD's w/8MB cache would speed things up a little bit.Specifically,if it has to hit the swap in a game'I get stuttering.Would a HD with a bigger cache help this,or is another 512RAM the only real answer? korn4266 Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 The new ones with the 8mb cache are alot faster the read and write faster. I have 2 older hdds with 2 and 4 mb cache and a 120gb with 8mb. The 120gb runs alot faster than the other 2. More memory wouldn't hurt either.
LobbDogg Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 I would say more ram would be the answer, but yes 8mb cache is a nice way to speed up HDD access.
r_target Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Yeah,I was thinking more RAM might be the real answer.I've been doing a little research and found out 2x512 will work better than 4x256.Too bad, this KHX really likes my board.Well,it's going to be a while before I can pull off any change$,so I guess I'll just have to cry myself to sleep for a while
