Various Video Game News Stories from the Week of July 6, 2020

It is Friday again so time to go through some of the video game news I missed from the week. First though I want to quickly remind everyone that we can expect some video games to arrive tomorrow as part of the Devolver Direct. It will include several things, including the first gameplay footage of Shadow Warrior 3 and will be streamed on the twitchgaming channel at 12 PM PDT, Saturday.

With that covered we can get to the rest of the news, starting with some from 2K Games. Unfortunately for those looking forward to Mafia: Definitive Edition announced in May, it has been delayed to September 25. Due to the global health crisis, finalizing everything for the original launch date became increasingly difficult and developers Hangar 13 and 2K Games decided it would be best to delay by about a month.

To help hold you over, there will be an extended look at the gameplay released on July 22, so you will get to see what you will be waiting for in a couple weeks.

Coming from Dear Villagers, gameplay footage for The Forgotten City has been released as a ten minute Quest Walkthrough. In this game players will be tasked solving a murder mystery, but there is the twist is that when any of the city's 26 residents commits a sin, all of them die. If you fail to stop the one sinner, then everyone will die but your work is not done, as you will be sent back in time to try again. This video introduces you to the city's Golden Rule and some of the citizens, including the Magistrate.

In development from Ronimo Games and being published by Devolver Digital, Blightbound will launch on Steam Early Access on July 29. This online and local multiplayer dungeon crawler challenges groups of three heroes to work down from their mountain refuge to fight the creatures of the Blight. Success through its dungeons can earn you unique items to loot and craft as well as new heroes with their own skills, passives, and stories to complete. You will also be able to build up your refuge by recruiting artisans, completing bounties, and training your heroes.

To celebrate its entry into Early Access, it will have a 10% discount from its $19.99 price.

Though not specifically video game news, I still think this is something worth sharing as it was announced Sony will be investing $250 million into Epic Games, giving it a minority interest in the company. Perhaps this is not that surprising of news as the Unreal Engine 5 demo in May was running on the PlayStation 5 and it seems the two companies have been working closely on the new engine. Many expect the future engine will be designed to take special advantage of the faster storage of both next generation consoles, allowing it to stream in assets of greater detail more efficiently than other, more traditional storage methods.

This investment is not completed just yet, as it will need to pass the usual closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Modus Games has shared that Remothered: Broken Porcelain from Stormind Games has been delayed. The thriller will be releasing on October 20, so players will get to enter the Ashmann Inn in time for Halloween. Like the Mafia: Definitive Edition delay mentioned above, the delay is due to the global health crisis and how it has stretched timeframes to be longer than anticipated.

Remothered: Broken Porcelain will release on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Lastly we come to THQ Nordic and its announcement of Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Just as the title suggests, this is a remaster of the original game from 2012 with upgraded graphics, including native 4K support, the inclusion of all original DLC, and refined gameplay. Its release date is September 8 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 with the Standard Edition to be priced at $39.99, but there will also be the Fate Edition at $54.99. Besides remastering the original and its DLC, Re-Reckoning will also be receiving a new expansion, Fatesworn next year. Details on the new expansion will come later but the Fate Edition will include it when it releases.

For the most dedicated fans to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, there is also the Collector's Edition priced at $109.99 that will include a detailed figurine of Alyn Shir, a custom Amalur keychain, five pieces of original in-game artwork, the soundtrack, and a high quality Collector's box. You can check out a trailer for the Collector's Edition here: Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Collector's Edition Trailer.
