Codemasters Announces DiRT 5, Coming October 2020

Recommended Posts

Fans of 2017's DiRT 4 will be happy to learn that Codemasters has announced DiRT 5 and it will be coming in October. This new entry in the series will allow you to race in New York City and Rio de Janeiro, and in remote areas of Greece and China as part of challenging events. In total there will be over 70 routes across the planet with landmarks turned into race tracks. You will be able to share this experience too with the return of split-screen for up to four players, and there will be a new game mode designed with creativity and couch play among friends in mind. We can expect this new mode to be announced later this year.

Besides the split-screen addition, we can also expect DiRT 5 to have a larger Career mode with event types and challenges spanning some of the world's toughest terrain. Though it is a narrative-driven experience, it features a non-linear progression path, allowing you to choose the events you want to play. The collection of vehicle classes includes buggies, unlimited trucks, and rock bouncers alongside traditional and modern rally cars. The Ariel Nomad, Lancia Stratos, and Citroen C3 R5 will be among the vehicles you will get to drive to victory, and with the livery editor, you will get to make them appear just as you want. This version of the editor opens up more customization options than any previous DiRT game has.

Other additions to the game include Nolan North and Troy Baker. These two iconic voice actors will be together applying their unique style to guide and mentor players through the Career mode. They will also feature in the in-game DIRT podcast series along with the voice talents of Donut Media and other famous names from the automotive world.

The game will launch in October for PC via Steam, the Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 but will also come to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 later, with a Google Stadia launch in early 2021. For those invested in the current Xbox generation and looking to get into the next, Xbox Smart Delivery means that while you get the best version for the Xbox One, you will receive the Xbox Series X optimized version at no cost when you upgrade. By leveraging the new capabilities of the upcoming console, DiRT 5 will deliver greater graphical fidelity, optimized performance for every mode, and load-times that will keep you constantly in the action.

Personally, I greatly enjoyed DiRT 4 when it released and DiRT Rally 2.0 too, so I am looking forward to this and getting used to sliding on mud, gravel, and snow all over again. Though no mention is made in the announcement about the simulation of different road conditions, but in previous games Codemasters has taken special effort to make the routes feel as realistic as possible. Not only can you expect a car to drive differently on mud than gravel, but the order you take to a track will also have an impact, as previous vehicles will damage the surface. The difference might be subtle, but it can be felt and so should not be ignored. If you do neglect to take a turn a little differently, do not worry, the dedicated Photo Mode means you will be able to capture the moment the car losses control.
