Orian Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 well to cut a very long story short, i got a 2TB usb 3 Hard Drive from the bay, plugged it in to my xbox one to format it and it refuses point blank to co-operate with it, i plug it into my pc and laptop which are both running different versions of linux. the drive is recognised by the os's but cant be formatted or anything. could the hard drive be restricted some how if so how do i remove it Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
SpikeSoprano Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 I'd use linux to run a hd test on it, most likely it has a hardware problem, if possible remove it from the usb3 case and plug it into a sata slot on the pc, that will tell you if it's crap or not. Orian Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 here is the offending drive have no clue which brand hard drive it is as some bright spark has removed any labels it may have had. the drive shows up in my bios and i have not checked the drive for errors yet but it is worth mentioning it clicks a fair bit and sounds like it power cycles during the clicking.could the logic board be toasty roasty if so are they still replaceable Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
ir_cow Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Depends what type od clicking. A head crash can tick also. I would say if the drive wont read or write its garbage.

SpikeSoprano Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 occ rules, I believe after 10 posts you will be able to post anytime you want, keeps the spammers out.(sometimes). I don't know if I would put any more money into that drive, if it's clicking the problem is more than just a circuit board replacement and it most likely won't last long even if you do get it to read and write. Those 2 tb drives are very cheap to buy brand new and ssd's are also less expensive in the last year.
bgnatewv2 Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 It says its a Hitachi, problem solved. Theyre not reliable at all. Throw it away and get something better.
sticknstone Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 A tick that is head crashing into the platten will damage both the head and platten.
Orian Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Ive been pricing up a new usb 3.0 external hdd enclosure for a 3.5 hdd.found a new 3.5 3Tb for roughly £60, hopefully should be fine for use with the Xbox one as games storageSent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
Antarrox Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) If there is any important data on the disk, then try to restore it using Uneraser, for example. But for the future it is better to buy a new hard drive. Edited July 10, 2020 by Antarrox
