Stealth3si Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 A used Micron M510DC 480GB is selling for relatively cheap price. Is this enterprise SSD good for gaming or is it better to use a consumer-grade SSD?
ir_cow Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Its probably no better than other drives made around the same time. So unless its like $50 I would pass. A cheap 480GB new can be found for $55.
Stealth3si Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 It is under $
ir_cow Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I found a review. Its within the realm of any 2015 SSD. Samsung Evo 840 is the best comparison. The drive has horrible 4k read depth but that is expected for the time. Good drive for games if its $40. Im tempted to pick up a few myself. 1,850 TB Write endurance. You will never kill this drive from use. Only age and power on time. Edit: I bought one as a temp drive, now i can put my spare intel 730 to better use. It was full of junk and became a storage drive instead. Not a good use for such a nice drive. This micron will fill those shoes. ir_cow Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Update: The drive finally showed up in the mail. About 2 weeks. Drive is actually faster than I thought. I'm going to buy another one for my PS3 All sold out.... I found it interesting that the memory buffer is ECC. Might be the only thing that makes it a "Enterprise" drive honestly. Stealth3si Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 I went ahead and snagged a new Inland Professional 480GB SSD for $39 on ebay. It is a relatively modern drive and has a 3 yr warranty I plan to use this as a gaming storage drive on a secondary gaming laptop on occasion. Hope this is worth it.
