Ashes of the Singularity was released back in 2016 and with its Nitrous engine, was the first game to support DirectX 12. By leveraging the low-level API, the game was able to support simulating hundreds of light sources at the same time and large numbers of units too, which is perfect a real-time strategy game. These capabilities made the developers wonder if this ability to handle tens of thousands of units could be used to make the "ultimate tower defense game." Siege of Centauri is going to try answering that question and will combine classic features of tower defense games with what was first made possible with Ashes of the Singularity. For example, having the large number of light sources present choices to players when it comes to map vision and making the decision between weapons to destroy one unit at a time and hundreds at a time more significant.

The premise to Siege of Centauri is that communications have been lost with Earth's first interstellar colony in Proxima Centauri, so the Carpathia has been sent to investigate. What this ship finds is the colony being attacked by strange alien invaders that are assaulting the colony without concern for self-preservation. Luckily, the Carpathia has a host of defensive structures it can deploy to protect the colony. As you succeed, the colony expands on the planet and is met by greater aggression.

Early Access is coming soon, and when it does it will be available for $10.
