jdm_freek Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Ok so I sold my Gtx 1080 FTW hybrid fo $400 and have squirreled back an additional $300 and I would like to get something new I game @ 1080p 144hz and I am unsure on RTX. Wouldn't a 2080 be a better performance margin compared to a 1080ti? In addition to that the 2000 series hasn't had time to optimise so I suspect there is more to be had from the cards in time. That makes sense , I just hate that feeling when you finally make your choice and not even 10 days later something better comes out. Depending on who you ask the jump from the 1080 -- 2080 is gonna see you around a 20-30% hike depending on what yah play. I have kept it too myself nuit IMHO the fact that ray tracing has not been fully realized by many is a severe bummer for Nvidia and the 2K series of cards. HOWEVER, I think personally that card has been overplayed by reviewers. Ray tracing or not, its a good card. Is the cast too dang high.... well yeah. I DIGRESS. There is still a lot of work to be done and regardless of how impressive you think RTX is currently, by the time we see a mature use of ray-tracing in games, I suspect the RTX 2000 series will struggle. This is first-generation hardware from NVIDIA and clearly the software ecosystem isn't ready, as we only have one game (Battlefield V) and one student project with it (Q2VKPT). Another game should be launching soon with it (Metro Exodus) but also a game that released months ago still hasn't gotten it (Shadow of the Tomb Raider), despite being shown with it for the Turing launch. Now, that doesn't mean don't buy an RTX 2000 series GPU, just that I wouldn't consider the RTX support a significant positive for it or a significant negative for any other product. Get whatever fits your need best, and if accelerate ray tracing is important to you, I'd say buy something less expensive and save your money for something in a year to two years, when NVIDIA will have its second or third generation RT cores out and AMD will likely have launched the ray-tracing ecosystem it is working on. Hey we are both still using sandy bridge bro, mine just got an e in it. 3930k over here. ;-) and yes I completely agrees.
