How hard to push?

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd entice you with a mum'snet title!

Got a cheapish Chinese built PC in Shanghai. Colorful RTX2070. Ryzen 7 2700. 16mb ram. Watercooler. Gigabyte dsh-450 motherboard.

Using Colorful's own overclocking program got a steady 1860MHZ overclock with 500 on the memory. Works great on all games except battlefield 5 with Ray tracing, where have to use stock settings (1620MHZ).

Do you guys think I'm doing pretty well with that overclock, given that this is a cheap Colorful GPU and one of gigabytes cheaper motherboards? Didn't want to spend more than 850 quid which is what I got it for including decent Logitech keyboard and mouse.

Cheers,

Ben

PS I'm a little confused by the GPU speed btw, as I have set it to 1860 but it does get up to 2100ish in game. So maybe that is the ceiling for my rig. Tried to overclock CPU too but flashing the latest BIOS failed for some reason so too scared to continue, plus seems it's mostly GPU that limits games as I play at 1440p and 4k

Well, how hard to push is solely dependent on your wallet constraints.

Here is an overclocking Guide for the 20800. everything should also apply to the 2060-70-80-80ti as well.

https://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/nvidia_rtx_2080_oc_guide/

Push the GPU to your hearts content, it will have its limiters that will keep you within boundaries.

THe processor is another matter though. What have you tried and where is it hanging up?

What kind of core and multiplier are you operating on?

Thanks for the guide. Actually saw that last nite and thought that answered much of my question.

I haven't done anything with the CPU cos a guide I followed said that you should flash the latest BIOS first and when I tried to do that it didn't work, so got cold feet and knew that it likely wouldn't make much difference when playing at 1440p upwards.

Alot of the guides out there say 4.20 with the proper cooling is good and obtainable. got a good cooling fitted and you'll travel.

And your right. it won't help much but will still help. Maybe just do some baby overclocking, you know, get your nappy wet one time before you outright crap in it??

One that I read stated to start with the voltage on the core at 1.30v and move the multi up until you are unstable after 30 minutes of a stability tester. once you find your unstable spot work with the V core until you get it right.

Give it a go if ya like, Just stay within what it known safe and watch the temps.
