Enhancements for Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition Leak

Being a leak this information should be considered rumor and therefore potentially wrong, but with the release coming in just a couple days, we will not have long before finding out. As has become the norm, AMD is expected to release a new version of its GPU driver package soon. Since the company replaced its Catalyst Control Center with Radeon Software Crimson Edition in 2015, it has kept a yearly cadence of updating this package with new features, such as ReLive and AMD Link. Now VideoCardz is reporting that this year's update, Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition, will bring with it a host of new features, including several for the Wattman overclocking utility.

At the top of the list of new features are Radeon Advisors, which are apparently tools to recommend settings within games (Game Advisor), in the drivers (Settings Advisor), and what components might be holding back your computer's performance (Upgrade Advisor). The Game Advisor is to work with the Radeon Overlay, so you will be able to see its suggestions while in the game.

The Wattman upgrade includes automatic GPU and memory overclocking, automatic GPU undervolting, temperature-dependent fan curves, unlocking the DPM states for RX Vega, and memory tuning. (I might be having some fun with those when this comes out, assuming this is correct.)

There are also some updates for AMD's display technologies; specifically improved auto-tone mapping for FreeSync 2 HDR and support for 21:9 displays with Virtual Super Resolution. The Radeon Overlay is gaining display setting controls, such as turning on and off Enhanced Sync or FreeSync, with per game settings, as well as Wattman controls, so you can tweak GPU frequency, voltage, temperature, memory timing and frequency, and then load and save profiles through the overlay. There will also be refined performance metrics, including the capture of frame times, and I assume greater control over the performance monitoring overlay. AMD Link, the app to monitor the GPU with a phone, will also be updated to gain voice control for various actions, Wattman controls, improved performance metrics so a phone can become a benchmarking tool, and ReLive control.

Finally ReLive will receive numerous improvements including in-game replay, GIF support, and a scene editor. There will also be ReLive streaming so you can send video to supporting mobile devices, up to 4K60. The app needed for this will be free on Android an iOS and AMD is claiming responsiveness of 70 ms compared to 125 ms for its competitor. Also ReLive will gain VR support, allowing it to work with HTC Vive Focus, Oculus GO, Samsung Gear VR, and Google Daydream.

While that is a long list of features to expect, there will also be some performance uplift, it is just not the primary focus of this update. Still, VideoCardz says it saw a claim of up to 15% for the RX 570. Also there are slides from the press deck covering improvements to Radeon Chill and Project ReSX, an initiative to improve performance and performance stability in esports games.
