Guest_Jim_* Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 When Windows 10 launched and brought with it Microsoft's new Edge web browser, there was undoubtedly hope it would come to be seen as more than just a new generation of Internet Explorer. Unfortunately it never caught on, even with its new EdgeHTML rendering engine, in part because it launched with various issues. Now Windows Central has heard from some sources that Microsoft may be working on a new browser and this one will be based on Chromium, the open-source basis for Google Chrome. By utilizing a Chromium rendering backend, this new browser, codenamed Anaheim, would display webpages identically to other Chromium based browsers, and potentially be more stable and performant than EdgeHTML. What is not known is what will happen to Edge. Windows Central's sources could not state if the Edge brand will remain, just with the different backend in place, or if Anaheim could become a new browser brand together. However, they did agree that EdgeHTML will cease to be the basis of the Windows 10 default browser. RealNeil Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Edge never caught on because of the public's trust issues with Microsoft browsers. (that was the issue for me anyway) In the past, running IE was like being slowly pecked to death by chickens. Not sure if I'll even try this new browser. wevsspot Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I wanted to give Edge a fair chance, I really did. But it was always so buggy, even after supposed "fixes" that I eventually just gave up. I mean, I just want my browser to work, regardless of content, website etc. Adblocking extensions and a working cookie manager are also important.
