Guest_Jim_* Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Today UL Benchmarks announced it will be showing off its Port Royal ray tracing benchmark for the first time on December 8 at the GALAX GOC Grand Final overclocking contest being held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This benchmark is the first dedicated real-time ray tracing benchmark for gamers and can be used to test any GPU that supports DirectX Raytracing (DXR). The benchmark uses DXR to enhance reflections, shadows, and other effects that are harder to achieve with traditional rendering methods. It has been designed to present a realistic example for what we can expect in upcoming games supporting ray tracing, with effects running at real time with reasonable frame rates at 2560x1440 resolution. Port Royal was developed with input from AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA and UL worked with Microsoft to ensure first-class implementation of the DXR API. Though there are currently only a limited number of GPUs that support DXR, we should expect more to get support in 2019. The Port Royal test will come to 3DMark in January 2019, with more details such as exact date and price coming on December 8.
