Help Me With This Mystery

Make sure there are no wires hovering over the fans. Bad wire management is a very big reason why CPU temps get high... Get some zip ties and shrink tubes, that may do the trick

On a seperate note, I am dancing around my office like an idiot because I got 3 Athlon MP chips that were supposed to be XP :D w00t!

Thanks for the replies. The wire management seemed to be in order, tied together and nothing in front of the fans. Yep, the fan is already blowing onto the heatsink.

I'm not sure what thermal compound he used but it probably was the one that came with the thermalright package. The heatsink seemed to be working fine but I guess the only explanation is that it's mouthed badly then when everything else appears to be in order...

26 cfm for a CPU is crappy.. slap a 40+ cfm fan on there and you should see a world of difference... if he doesnt mind noise, a vantec tornado will probably drop temps a whole lot.

if the heatsink is hot that's a good sign, but that alos means that you he needs to do a better job af taking heat away from the heatsink..

the fan is the problem

:withstupid: Yea I also suggest anything over 40cfm. I'm running 38cfm but on a modded pelt as well so my temps are still acceptable (30's)

Oh, my friend has an slk800 and he has a TT S(tupid)mart fan on it, actually performs well! His temps never go above 40C load @ 200x11 @1.75 (i tink)

Yeah, I would say you need a much higher CFM fan. But before you do that, get some nice AS Ceramique and reseat the HS and see if that lowers temps any. If not, get a better fan. Also, like everyone else said, try some wire management.

As I said earlier... the temp you are looking at is not idle, the temp displayed in the BIOS is load.

You are at 54C load. There is nothing wrong with this temp. While it is a little higher than what most people like, it's a fine temp.

In order for you to get the idle temp, you will need to boot into Windows so that the "System Idle Process" can take over and your system can indeed become idle.

If you'd like to lower your load temps from 54C, then follow the suggestions that have been posted here.
