9800xt Oc With Atitool

Recommended Posts

All right. I just down loaded the Atitool. Started running it. Right now my core is set at 450 (default is 412)and my memory is at 378( default is 365). Now I have not been testing long, just a few minutes. But my question is,can I suppliment the current cooling assembly? So that I may go higher with my values. Then how high is to high? I do have a new in bag 9800 Pro waiting if I blow this up. But I would prefer not to. :P

Where can I get heatsinks and where do I put them. Is there a better fan assembly or just leave that alone? I know the plate on the back looks like I could place a sink right on it. A big one. Then on the face, smaller ones on the chips?

Get a VGA silencer and some OCZ BGA ramsinks. The Silencer is an aftermarket fan/heatsink. You remove the stock one and bolt it onto the GPU. The ramsinks I use arctic silver thermal adhesive to mount (though they come with thermal pads).

Look on SVC here. It's where I got all three from. Oh, and you'll need two sets (of 4) of ram sinks. 4 for the front and 4 for the back.

That'll give you a good jump on core speed and maybe 2-3mhz on RAM. As an added bonus your CPU and case temps should drop as it blows the exhaust out of your case thru the PCI slot.

Cool! Thanks. What program should I use to hold the over clock. I tried the radlinker and it will not function. I had the overdrive on when I first installed. But I uninstalled and turned it off, then reinstalled. Still doesn't work. Is there another one I can use?

I check the VGA silencer . It says its not for the 9800XT. Should this be a concern?

Make sure you're looking at the rev. 2 VGA. The first release didn't have clearance for the 9800xt. If you can't get it on SVC look on google. Sorry I forgot about that and I have a 9800 pro so the clearance wasn't an issue.

EDIT: Sorry I was wrong. Rev 2 fits AIW cards, not XT. But the arctic cooling site says that they are coming out with Rev 3 for XT cards mid-march. So hold out for a little while and get that one. It'll be worth your time, I promise.
