Vive Pro Pre-orders Available Now and Original Vive Gets Price Cut

Recommended Posts

It was back at CES 2018 that HTC first showed off the Vive Pro, a new head mounted display with several improved components, and now pre-orders are live for the device. The original Vive HMD has also received a price cut, so you can get that today for $499 or you can spend $799, the launch price of the original Vive, for the Vive Pro. The Vive Pro will begin shipping on April 5 and until June 3, the first sixty days of availability, those who purchase it will get a free six-month trial of Viveport Subscription. This subscription lets you pick up to five titles a month from a list of over 400 to enjoy. The $799 price is for the HMD only and does not include controllers or base stations, but it does work with SteamVR Tracking 1.0 and 2.0, so existing hardware will work with it.

Among the many improvements the Vive Pro offers are an improved display, built-in headphones, and redesigned ergonomics for increased comfort. This improved display comes from HTC going to a dual-OLED display that offers a combined resolution of 2880x1600, which is a 78% improvement on the resolution of the original.
