bloodking Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 after much thinking i now made up my mind...i'm gonna buy myself a new vid card but i don't wanna get a super high end one.....i'm considering the Aopen GF FX 5900XT for around 200 bucks....or the HIS excalibur 9600XT for a few buck more(9700 isn't available here) can get other brands as well so that's not really a problem....i've read many reviews and there are alot of reviews that give the 5900XT a better scorce then the 9600XT especially when overclocked! i'm really having a hard time choose between those two....i like Nvidia and i never owned a Ati..... does someone have a review with these exact two cards? and one more important thing is...will there be significant performance improvement when i swap any of these two with my 4x AGP 128MB GF4 Ti4200? (which doesn't OC very good )
Ziggy54354 Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 i'd say get the geforce especially if the 9600XT is more. If anything the 9600XT should be significantly less than the other card.
GTSticky Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 In my opinion, unless you have a severe financial hardship, you simply must cough up the extra few bucks for a Radeon 9800 Pro. $210 shipped off newegg.com
Special_K Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 How about a 9800 pro for 200? Sound good? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....&type=Refurbish (Its what I got... so what if its refurbed.... your gonna bust the warranty anyways (putting cooling on it and all) plus you got 15 days to test it all you want
bloodking Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 or should i get a 9800SE and flash that one to a pro? i found one that is the same price as the GF FX
Paranoid Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 There is no guarantee that the flash would be successful, and the 9800SE SUCKS
Special_K Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 I would just get the 9800 pro and clock it higher, The SE has a slim to none chance of opening up the extra pipelines... something like 30% make it <_< Plus this is the best price/benefit ratio out there right now. I'm surprised they're still in stock! I got 5480 at complete stock settings (CPU too) and 5741 with my stable OC @2205Mhz (no vid card OC) Getting my cooling in later this week.... get ready OCC! Paranoid Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 I got 6400 with my 2800+ and 9800 pro.
Special_K Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 OK Not tryin to hyjack the thread here But again the 9800 pro has unrivaled performance... the 3d graphics are amazing! Of course, im coming off of a Radeon 7000 Anything is better than that! (its going in my server now)
bloodking Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 okay....i can imagine the 9800SE sucks...but wouldn't that be worth a shot? can get the 9800SE for 150...that's a big difference in price....and i just want to get a good card...not an high end card.....i think it's worth the risk that when i get a SE that i can flas it into a pro....i think i will be showing alot of improvement with everything when i upgrade from my GF4 to a 9800SE....and even more when i get it to work as a pro
Special_K Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 Yea but you'll still be limited to the pro... well, the se I mean, with the pro you have more overclocking potential and speed, plus stable graphics you can always fall back on. When HL 2 (ever) comes out and you play it you wont regret getting a 9800 pro
GTSticky Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 Sounds like you are doing that human thing. I hear on one hand "about 1/3 make it to a pro" - and your reply "It'll be great off the shelf and even better when I make it be a pro" You do understand that you have a better than average chance of NOT getting it to go pro successfully? 60 bucks is a small amount of money for such a large risk imo. G'luck with whatever you choose.
