hard drive help............

so i ordered the wrong hard drive for a AM4 build i clicked on a sas drive instead of a sata..........................

can i just use a sas to sata adapter or should i just return the drive?

The cost of the adapter is pretty steep. May just want to return it. Congrats on the new build though!

Return it and get another. SATA controllers can't talk SAS, even if you run a physical adapter. You'd need a SAS controller.

SAS drives are fast.. but cons are it gets hot and as ccokeman said adapters are expensive

Return it and get another. SATA controllers can't talk SAS, even if you run a physical adapter. You'd need a SAS controller.

you sir are correct i got a sas to sata adapter and pc would not see it

By adapter I mean a PCIe controller card.  The last time I looked when I had a pair of 4TB SAS drives the card was about 160 bucks.

You can pick up internal cards for $80 used on eBay. I have four LSI 9207 and 9308 cards that work great!

 

SAS drives really aren't worth it on desktops, though.

i have to send the hard drive and gpu back.............. UGHHHH

but i ordered the wrong gpu any i mistakenly ordered a rx 460 4gb oc by gigabyte and it worked fine until for an hour and then the screen got what looked like  multi confetti ants.

i tried it in my rig and same thing right after i installed catalyst
