RX 580 power connections

My RX 580 uses one 8 pin and one 6 pin power connector. My PSU, a Seasonic M12II 620, came with two cables that split into an 8 and 6 pin connection each. Seasonic recommends using two cables for video cards over 225w and one cable for cards under 225w. I have a Powercolor Red Devil Golden Radeon and currently have it powered with two cables but would like to know if I could get away with using only one power cable.

I agree with Dynamic, but if you were going to do this than a Seasonic power supply is a good choice to be using. Each one of those cards really do pull 210+ watts under full load. You can buy a 8Pin to dual 6 connectors but however you still are limited to wire gauge and how big much power you can draw on a single 12v rail. Two RX 580s on a single 600watt PSU is not enough power....period.

Your motherboards PCIe slot is rated at 75 watts, 8-pin accessory plug is rated at 150 watts, and 6-pin is rated at 75 watts,.. the 6 + 2 accessory plugs are rated at 150 watts even on the 6-pin.

Your card requires an 8-pin plus 6-pin connector due to it's 290 watt power draw under load,.. thus preventing motherboard PCIe slot from exceeding 75 watts 2.08 amps,.. keeps PCIe slot or PEG power connection under spec for max watts/amps drawn and shorting/burning up your hardware.
