dling Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) My wife got this laptop at microcenter. At first she liked it . Not she is thinking theres not enough storage. I looked at the bottom and there a place for a ssd it looks like. What I dont know is how that will work with the OS. Currently she cant even do windows update due to lack of storage. Would adding the ssd help ? I tried uninstalling a lot of the bloat ware but its still isn't enough space. Any suggestions ? I know ,trash it and buy a real laptop. Never let ur wife pick out her computer. Edited May 7, 2017 by dling
SpikeSoprano Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 IMHO the quickest fix would use either a usb flash drive (128 gb or bigger ) or a external ssd hd and put a program files folder on it and install any extra programs, music or videos and downloads to that. Should solve the problem. Hope this helps . If you can install a ssd hd inside the machine it would be a permanent fix because you could clone the os to it . Braegnok Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 The unit comes with a 32GB eMMC drive,.. you can upgrade to 64GB. Or the cover plate on bottom is for an 5400RPM HDD 500GB or 1TB,.. you can get a 1TB 5400 2.5" HDD for cheep https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822179108&ignorebbr=1. That unit does lack in performance, and comes with a ton of bloatware,.. after cleaning up her boot drive and installing a storage drive she will be fine. SpikeSoprano Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 Went to asus site and checked the specs, this laptop should have 4 gb of memory for decent performance, unfortunately the memory can't be upgraded, so it will be allright for web surfing ( if you don't open more than 3 pages ) and emails etc. I actually think it may have a hard time playing videos because that also uses system memory. Sorry for your luck but if it was me I would not spend the money on a better ssd because you will still have a slow pc. As I memtioned before a usb stick for more storage is your best bet. Just my opinion.
dling Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) Thanks guys. The only game she plays is candy crush ????. I think a cheap hdd will be her best option. Then cloned as mentioned. Thanks again. Edited May 7, 2017 by dling
SpikeSoprano Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 She shouldn't have a problem with facebook games, surfing and emails, that is what these machines are designed for .

dling Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) I made the order. 320g hdd for 28.00 dollars. I wish I had just given her one of my ssd's then I would have gotten a larger one for me. On a side note. I love this forum. I've been a member for a long time and the help IS AWESOME. Thanks to all. dling Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 (edited) Ok. So today Installed the hdd in wife's laptop. I can't clone the built-in drive. I get an error telling me that the recovery partition of the storage will not copy or transfer. Edited May 13, 2017 by dling
SpikeSoprano Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 You should not have to clone the recovery partition ( as it is probably a system protected partition ) try just to clone the os partition , what cloning software are you using ? dling Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Whats the difference between cloning and image coping ? When I did the clone on my computer it also shrunk the size of the ssd . When I did the image it did not . But when I tried to boot for the image it got a missing boot record massage . I dont understand that . Seems they would do the same thing
