Exegesis Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 I currently have two 256 sticks of Corsair XMS 3200 platinum low CAS in my system. They run great and stuff but i'm thinking about buying a 512 stick to round my system off with an even 1gb. Right now i have those two sticks in a dual channel configuration. Would throwing in a thrid stick cause any problems if it's not matched like my corsair modules? Also can i go with another brand. Some guy was talking about Kreton being hot stuff for a cheap price. Anyways, let me know.
dangerousfigure Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 you wont be running in daul cannel mode if you throw in a 512 Stick- you might lose performance i would save up and buy a twinx set 1gig / i have a 1 gig 2x512 of corsair xms c2 for sale

smithy Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 You could run dual channel with three sticks but it is best to have them the same PCB's and manufacturer since they use the same chipset. If you put in the 2-256s in the slots that are closest to each other that will equal the first channel then the 512 in the 3rd slot. It will be 512 on each side and even. If you mix different rams you might have compatibility problems and defeat the purpose of increasing your ram speed for optimum transfer of information. I use 3 sticks and I have no problems with my Mushkin LV2's with BH-5's.
