CheeseMan42 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 ASUS has announced the "Tinker Board" as a competitor to single board computers like the Raspberry Pi 3. The board measures just 8.5cm x 5.3cm but manages to pack a 1.8GHz ARM Cortex A17, ARM Mali-T764 GPU, and 2GB of DDR3 into that small space. The Tinker Board lags the latest Raspberry Pi in CPU power and only supports 32-bit instructions, but might make up for it with a more powerful GPU with "hardware support for H.265 4K decoding instead of just 1080p." It is worth pointing out that a Windows 10 PC with an Intel Kaby Lake is still required for streaming Netflix content in 4K. ASUS has developed its own OS based on Debian Linux and is "working on support for the likes of Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, and Kodi, but has offered no release date."
