whitefiretiger Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 So my fan started to take a dump in my psu so I swapped out a fan I had setting (from another lower watt psu) and I'm finding its very slowly (id guess under half the speed of the old fan used to) pushing very hot air out of the psu. So I'm looking to order a new 120mm fan to replace it. I know both cfm and static pressure are important for a psu fan and I'm thinking about getting the Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 blue (would like to retain the blue glow it had as that was part of the reason i picked my psu). I was wondering if anybody had thoughts on this fan for use in a psu or if there's a better fan i should look into. I'm not overly worried about sound levels just want to keep this thing cool. And before anybody says to just replace the psu because the stored amperage is dangerous; I'm well aware and have plenty experience working with electronics. Thanks in advance for any help. whitefiretiger Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 (edited) Its not very old but i got it from my friend (he needed a higher watt than he had thought) and cannot get it warranty replaced due to no proof of purchase of any kind. (i liked this psu better than mine so i kept it and sold mine) Just want to switch out the fan and continue using it till the psu I've been eyeing goes on sale. wevsspot Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Technically speaking you can use any fan that will fit in there. Ideally the replacement fan would have the same CFM or better than the one that was originally spec'd. for the power supply. If we knew the brand/model of the power supply we could likely determine the original fan specifications and even the oem manufacturer (if it's a name brand power supply). Wasn't any static pressure info but with how densely packed a psu is i know sp is important. Replace it with a branded quality unit.For some reason the 700w has no reviews but the 800w version has great reviews on newegg and a couple other places. For now I'm just going to place my order for the fan and i do plan to replace this psu later on but waiting for a sale to do so as the full modular i want is not in the budget right now. I saw somewhere these aee rebranded psu just cant remember who made them. Also I'm not sure about how or when this connected / split 12v switch should be used. whitefiretiger Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 (edited) Its on the back of this psu It has 4 12v rails so I'm guessing it combines them into 1 rail or something but never seen anything like it before Found a site that says this psu is made by Topower Edit: After some searching I found that a lot of brands use/used Topower psu and rebrand them including Mushkin & OCZ. ir_cow Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I understand being broke, but the PSU is the heart of the computer. If it goes and it's a cheap brand, it can take the whole computer with it. That or catch fire, i've seen both. I would personally just replace it with a name brand. a 600Wat EVGA Bronze can be found for $50 or less. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438014. While its not the best, it is very good for the price. Edit: Looks like your PSU is made by Topower and not known for making quality PSUs.
