road-runner Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 My sandisk ssd died at 1.5 years so I sent it back for RMA and also ordered a samsung. I done a new install of win 7 pro and all the updates, I saw mention of samsung magician so used it also to optimize and enable rapid mode. Not sure how much better it would be if I had sata 6gb/s but its plenty fast enough for my main rig..

xenkw0n Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Rapid mode uses some of your memory as a type of cache and that's why you'll see speeds rated so fast. It's actually very useful but limited in the types/amount of data that is actually being 'optimized'. Still, SATA II is not actually 'slow' per se, you're just not going to get as much as you can out of that drive. I also have an X58 system and love it. Recently upgraded it to a Xeon X5670. Had I known I could upgrade to a Xeon that overclocks so well I would have never built my new 2011v3 i7 6800k rig.
