A 960 to a 970 is hardly an upgrade given the signicantly large price to performance improvement he could get going to a 1060/70 or 480, as well as being built for the next several years

Ah, fair enough. But compare 970 to 1060, another good jump up. With support for new technologies, something like a 1060 or 470/480 may still be worth considering.

Fair enough - it's always worth what you're willing to pay, but I'd personally never spend $200 for a previous generation, smallest possible increase in performance.  I'd save my money and get something that won't need to be upgraded again in 6 months.  Unless I could find another of my same card for dirt cheap and do sli or crossfire.

I'm thinking that a used GTX 970 maybe it's a bargain for me because in Italy ( my Country) I can find it  at
