N.E.A Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Hi everyone, I just bought the Samsung 32" curved monitor and tried to hook it up with my GPU but it wont turn on. I connected it to my laptop and it works fine. I suspect that the HDMI to DVI adapter that I just also bought may be faulty. But I fear that it may be an issue with my GPU. Do you guys have any idea on how can I troubleshoot this? My first solution will be getting a HDMI to DVI cable as soon as I can and try it. Is there a compatibility issue with my GPU and monitor? My GPU is Gigabyte GTX 275. I will be upgrading it soon but for the time being I have to use it till my next upgrade.
IVIYTH0S Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I'm guessing the GTX275 was before the cards all came with HDMI? I'd try the new converter cable and see if that works for starters. I used an HDMI to DVI cable for a while for my last monitor with no issues.
N.E.A Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 So I got another converter and it did not work so I got a new HDMI - DVI cable which also did not work Now check the images and tell me what is wrong? (Attached) The only thing which I can spot is that my GPU DVI port has additional 4 pins above and below the largest pin on the DVI cable. Could that be the issue? All the converters/cables on the market are no different from the ones I bought.
bp9801 Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 You have a DVI-D cable and your card has DVI-I ports. Either way it should be fine since the cable supports it. Is there an input setting on the monitor to adjust, like analog or digital?

bp9801 Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Maybe try a different HDMI port? Update the video card drivers? Plug in another monitor to the 275 while you have the Samsung hooked up to see if there are any settings to change to get picture? SpikeSoprano Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 (edited) Those missing 4 pins just limit the analog signal, on a lcd monitor it should work as BP pointed out. Edited May 30, 2016 by SpikeSoprano
Waco Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 What resolution is the monitor?
N.E.A Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Those missing 4 pins just limit the analog signal, on a lcd monitor it should work as BP pointed out. Well, I have ordered another cable with those 4 pins. Maybe this time it works. Maybe try a different HDMI port? Update the video card drivers? Plug in another monitor to the 275 while you have the Samsung hooked up to see if there are any settings to change to get picture? I did try all possible combinations of the available ports on the GPU and the monitor. And I did hook it up as a second display along with the first one and was unable to get any picture. It keeps saying check HDMI cable. What resolution is the monitor? 1920x1080
ir_cow Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 No reason why that card shouldn't be able to display 1080 on HDMI or DVI. That card is before Displayport was big so thats out of the question without an expensive adapter. That card is getting near "End of Life" (10years). The question is what display were you using before this new one and do you still have it?

I tried connecting both and try and get a picture on it but no luck.
SpikeSoprano Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Very possible if the card won't run the asus monitor by itself anymore it just may have finally died !
