Guest_Jim_* Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 NVIDIA has released the source code of its HairWorks technology to GitHUB. HairWorks is part of the company's GameWorks program, which provides easy-to-use solutions for various visual effects; in this case, the simulation of hair and fur. One of the games that uses HairWorks is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which had some issues with the technology on AMD GPUs. Other GameWorks libraries have had their source code released, including PhysX, PhysX Clothing, PhysX Destruction, volumetric lighting, and the FaceWorks demo. The next library to have its code released will be HBAO+, according to the press release. This is an ambient occlusion technology that debuted in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist and does (I believe) a very good job of accurately rendering environmental shadows at full resolution, without the usual hit to performance. ET3D Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I didn't know NVIDIA was releasing source code, that's certainly nice. Although looks like it's behind a login, so can't check for now to see if there's any annoying license issues here. I don't fully trust NVIDIA.
