CheeseMan42 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Microsoft has been aggressively pushing Windows 10 to users of older versions of Windows. I am regularly encouraged to upgrade when starting my computer, no matter how many times I say not interested. It appears that the latest tactic out of Microsoft is the inclusion of an ad generator in part of the most recent Patch Tuesday update targeting Internet Explorer. Fix KB 3139929 "resolves several reported vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage in Internet Explorer… Additionally, this security update includes several nonsecurity-related fixes for Internet Explorer." The last part of the quote is where the generator is included. The ad generator works by adding a blue banner on new tabs that states, "Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 10." Phil Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Lots of luck if you have a computer that MS hasn't really gotten proper drivers for. When your new update boots like molasses or freezes due to conflicts, you're on your own.
