ir_cow Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 After my CPU died and was out of warranty I really just wanted to leave the X79 platform behind, but while my Motherboard is out on RMA. I came across a ebay seller who is selling new 3960x for $250! I looked at all the feedback and they the guy has sold 116 of them so far and all the feedback is positive. Ordered one tonight and it should be here sometime next week. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i7-3960X-Extreme-CPU-Processor-CM8061907184018-SR0KF-BX80619I73960X-/171981507460?hash=item280ae58b84:g:exwAAOSwo0JWMGEj This is much cheaper than getting a whole new setup. I guess i'll be staying with the X79 for a few more years.
blacksails23 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 That is a steal! How did the old setup kick the bucket? Did you push it too hard?
ir_cow Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I swapped cases lol. I suspect the motherboard has something to do with it. No proof though. I was going to hit up the i7 6700k until i saw that crazy deal. I was actually looking for another Xeon. Asus got strange and only supported E5 V2 versions of the Xeon for the R4BE, where as my old Asus X79 WS supported every version. The cheapest I could find of those used Xeons was $700. Just on a whim I checked out the extreme chips expecting to find a used for $500. Found a much better deal
Cespenar Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 It is so frustrating to do all that work and the goods fail anyway. My sympathies.
potatochobit Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) CPUs dont die that often if the CPU was bad and the motherboard bad I would get rid of them both probably one damaged the other not sure how much you could sell an RMA board for, though Edited March 8, 2016 by potatochobit
ir_cow Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I RMAed the board already. I'll be getting a new one in return soon.
ir_cow Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Got the CPU last week and tested it out. 100% genuine. I wonder how the seller got a hold of a 200 of these CPUs.
Phil Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Nice! That seller is getting a lot of views on that item.
ir_cow Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Nice! That seller is getting a lot of views on that item. Yeah, plus mine had no marking on it and 100% unused and new. Its like it was sitting a tray for 4 years until someone finally decided to sell it. The seller also dropped the price $10 only 8 LEFT! This is really a deal for anyone who wants second computer. Can't get much better than that for the price.
